NHKスペシャル アフリカ ゼロ年
IME suddenly stopped working. I don't know why. But it happens from time to time on this PC at home. Great. I will write in English!
"Not Again!" That was my first reaction to the NHK Special program on Africa this evening. It was about the civil war in Sudan. It lasted over 20 years and the main issue was the control of the oil. Because of this natural resouce, which increased value considerably in the last couple of years, superpowers are interested. USA and China, the world's largest consumer of oil and the second, both have stakes in the oil production in Sudan.
The program focuses on the genocide of African tribe in Dalfur area by the Arabian tribe, which is helped by the government forces. United Africa force is doing their first peace keeping mission since its foundation in 2002. But its troops of 3000 is not enough for its mission in Dalfur, which is as large as France.
UN considered sending its peace keeping force there but USA and China, which want to keep good relation with the Sudan government, were against it. And, of course, they both have permanet sheets at the UN Security Council with veto power.
Meanwhile, 70,000 including women and chidlren were estimated to be killed and 300,000 escaped to a refugee camp. Another catastrophy is being made. There was a commnet by a anonymous UN staff. "80,000 Africans have to die in order to risk one Western UN soldier."
